I knew the smoothie for Blendtec Week had to be two layered. Two-layer smoothies are simply stunning and make any drink feel special.

Because smoothies are basic blender fare, I wanted a recipe that stood out in both flavor and presentation. The orange layer brings tropical mango and bright citrus, while the purple layer is packed with mixed berries. Together they form a Hawaiian Berry Smoothie that’s as beautiful as it is delicious.

For a finishing touch, top the smoothie with a skewer of fresh mango, orange, and berries. If you want to create swirls or patterns where the layers meet, here’s an easy technique:

  • Fill each glass about two-thirds full with one layer.
  • Spoon a few dollops of the second layer on top, leaving the glass not quite full.
  • Use a butter knife or popsicle stick to drag and create patterns along the sides of the glass.
  • Finish by filling the glass to the top with more smoothie to conceal any rough edges.

Two glasses of Hawaiian Berry Smoothie, with yellow and purple swirls, are topped with peach slices, blackberries, and blueberries on a rustic wooden surface. A striped straw and plate of fruit complete the vibrant scene.

Sometimes presentation is key – turn your basic smoothie into something fantastic by layering two colors.

Ingredients

Hawaiian Layer

  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 2 frozen bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • ¼ cup orange juice, plus more if smoothie is too thick

Berry Layer

  • 1 container berry yogurt, roughly 5.3–6 oz
  • 2 cups frozen berries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries — more blueberries/blackberries yield a deeper purple
  • 1 frozen banana, sliced
  • ¼ cup milk, plus more if smoothie is too thick

Instructions

Hawaiian Layer

  • Place the Hawaiian layer ingredients in your blender in the order listed. Use the smoothie setting (or blend until smooth). Add more orange juice as needed to reach your desired consistency.

Berry Layer

  • Blend the berry layer ingredients in the order listed until smooth. Add a little more milk if the mixture is too thick.

To assemble

  • Carefully layer the two mixtures in glasses. Use a butter knife or popsicle stick to create designs inside the glass if desired. Finish with a fruit toothpick on top.
