During a mixology class at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas, master mixologist Phillip Dow taught us how to make a stunning Aviation Cocktail. The deep violet hue and elegant presentation make this cocktail unforgettable.
We explored the cocktail’s background and learned several practical tips for preparing it perfectly.

Aviation Cocktail Recipe

Aviation Cocktail Ingredients
- Gin
- Maraschino liqueur
- Fresh lemon juice
- Crème de violette
Garnish: Brandied cherry
One important tip from the class: never use old or partially melted ice. Keep fresh ice for the shaker and separate ice (already chilled) for the serving glass. This preserves the cocktail’s temperature and prevents dilution from melted ice during shaking.
If you plan to visit Las Vegas and want to learn more about craft cocktails, check with the Monte Carlo Resort MLife Concierge to see if Phillip Dow is leading classes during your stay.

Phillip brings years of professional mixology experience to his classes. He explains the history behind classic cocktails and the reasoning for specific ingredients. Our session covered cocktail origins and the evolution of recipes, which made the experience both informative and inspiring.
The class was hosted at the Hit Bar and Lounge at the Monte Carlo resort. To sign up, be sure you are an MLife Rewards Sapphire member and contact the MLife Concierge before your visit to confirm availability.
