Cloud Dough Fluff Recipe
Welcome to Smart School House! If you enjoy tactile, hands-on projects, you’ll love this simple Cloud Dough Fluff. We’re big fans of DIY doughs, slimes, and silly putty — from dish soap silly putty and ice cream play dough to scented slime, yogurt dough, aloe dough, and Funfetti play dough. Today we’re sharing a two-ingredient cloud dough that’s soft, silky, and perfect for sensory play.
This Cloud Dough Fluff is the softest, fluffiest cloud dough you’ll make. It’s quick to prepare, stores well, and is fun for toddlers and older kids alike.

Cloud Dough Fluff
This two-ingredient recipe creates a silky, moldable dough that holds shape briefly then crumbles back into a soft cloud. It’s an excellent sensory activity that takes about 20 minutes to make and can last for months when stored properly.

Cloud Dough Fluff is suitable for a wide age range with adult supervision during preparation. It’s particularly great for sensory bins, pretend play, and calming activities.

Ingredients
- A 22 oz. container of baby powder
- Baby oil
- Optional: food coloring (a drop at a time)
- Large mixing bowl (and smaller bowls if making multiple colors)
- Hand mixer
- Measuring cup
How to Make Cloud Dough Fluff
- Pour the entire 22 oz. container of baby powder into a large mixing bowl. Adults should handle this step to avoid inhalation of powder.
- Add 1 cup of baby oil to the powder.
- Use an electric handheld mixer on low speed to blend the ingredients for about 5 minutes until they start to come together.
- When the mixture begins to form, knead it by hand. Kneading helps develop the fluffy, moldable texture.
- Optional: Divide the dough into smaller bowls and add food coloring a drop at a time. Mix with the hand mixer briefly, then knead until the color is evenly distributed.
Keep mixing and kneading until the dough no longer crumbles apart and holds shape when picked up, then gently falls back into its soft form.

The combination of baby powder and baby oil gives this dough an incredibly smooth, silky feel. It’s pleasant to touch and can even leave hands feeling soft.

Play tips:
- Play outside or use an aluminum tray to contain any mess, similar to sand or moon dough play.
- Wash hands with warm, soapy water after play.
- Store finished cloud dough in sealed containers or zip-top bags to keep it soft for months.

We store our dough in small containers with lids and spoons, but a sealed plastic bag also works well. Kids may enjoy mixing colors together — that’s part of the fun.

Cloud Dough Fluff offers a calming, sensory-rich experience that encourages imaginative play and fine motor practice. Try it for a rainy day activity, a classroom sensory station, or a quiet-time project at home.
