Coconut Mojito Recipe: Tropical Rum Cocktail Guide

This refreshing coconut mojito is perfect for anyone who prefers a lighter cocktail. Mild, slightly sweet coconut rum pairs beautifully with bright lime and cool mint to create an easy summer drink.

I love a well-made mojito. This variation keeps the classic mint-and-lime profile but uses coconut rum for a tropical twist. Coconut rum is typically around 20% ABV — about half the strength of many spirits — so it’s ideal if you want a flavorful cocktail that’s not overly strong.

Below is a simple recipe to make one coconut mojito at home.

Equipment

  • muddler

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lime wedges, about 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 6-8 mint leaves
  • 1/2 oz agave nectar, less if you don’t like it sweet
  • 2 oz coconut rum
  • 4 oz club soda
  • ice

Garnish

  • lime wheel
  • mint sprigs

Instructions

  • In a glass, gently muddle the lime wedges, mint leaves, and agave nectar to release the juices and oils. Be careful not to over-muddle the mint, which can make it bitter.
  • Pour in the coconut rum.
  • Add ice to fill the glass.
  • Top with club soda.
  • Stir gently to combine all the ingredients.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel and mint sprigs if desired, and enjoy responsibly.
