Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sliced beef, not too thick
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh ripe or canned, no additives)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil (or 4–5 fresh basil leaves, chopped)
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • Dash of hot pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  • In a medium frying pan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the sliced beef, chopped tomatoes, salt, oregano, chopped garlic, hot pepper flakes (if using), and basil. Drizzle with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and add 1/4 cup water.
  • Cover the pan partially (lid 1/4 uncovered) and cook for about 25 minutes, turning the meat after 15 minutes. Remove the lid, raise the heat, and cook an additional 5 minutes until the sauce thickens. Serve hot — as a main with vegetables or stuffed into crusty rolls for a memorable sandwich. Enjoy!
